Artist's Description
The Cape Dissapointment lighthouse is positioned where the Columbia River enters the Pacific Ocean, on the Washington coast. The disappointment name came from the frustration of early sailing ships unsuccessfully attempting to enter the Columbia River channel through shifting sand bars. This is also the place where the Lewis and Clark surveyers first arrived at the Pacific Ocean.
